Home Design Trends 2023

Everyone is talking about the trends for 2023 right now, and it’s certainly a fun and diverse mix this year.

A real showcase of yin and yang is happening. We have everything from big, bold colour and pattern for maximum impact to a more quiet, serene and earthy, minimalistic vibe. We are moving away from white everywhere, which — while crisp, clean and fresh looking — can be a hard one to sustainably live in for many. The good news for 2023 is that now we have choice. We can let our own style come through, express ourselves more and let who we are and what makes us feel good guide us.

Have some fun and play with the trends this year. Here are four trends that I’m loving and will be incorporating into my designs over the next 12 months:

Big & Bold

Maximum impact comes to life this year with pattern, layers, and rich, bold colours. Wallpaper is making a come back with big pattern and bold statements. We'll be seeing lots of layers, lots of accessories, rugs and luxe fabrics and furnishings. It all feels very extroverted — very yang energy.

Serene & Earthy

On the other side though we have this very opposite yin energy happening. Where we see more softness, toned down, muted colours, soft shapes, comforting layers, and a serene escape from the busy outside world. We are seeing less of the stark white and cool greys everywhere. We’re really seeing an overall warming up vibe with softer, warmer, earthy tones.

Gothic Mood

We are also seeing more dark, dramatic colour statements happening — an almost goth vibe to some of it. Sometimes with just touch of it in a space, to whole rooms in dark, even black wall to wall, floor to ceiling. From bold black with white contrasts, to rich deep colours and layers of textures and pattern it all feels very “Wednesday Addams.”

Mix It Up

There’s a real mixing happening, and I have got to say, its refreshing and open us up to really explore what feels good to us and reflect our own personality, values and vision for what home to us should looks and feels. Even the individual trends themselves are a mix bag of bold and soft, dark and light, bold and subtle. I’m really excited to see how 2023 unfolds and how these trends are adopted into our every day style.
